Fall Fast Approaching
With Fall right around the corner it makes me start dreaming of cool crisp mornings, pumpkin spice lattes, apple spice candles and those gorgeous falling leaves. This is the time of year, for a lot of the country, the weather changes and kids are back to school. Every year for the past 4 years I have come up with a Fall Bucket List. This is a list of items that I want to do during this season. A lot of times it reminds me to slow down and enjoy the simple things that are happening right in front of me.
Growing up I lived on property with a small farm. We would go to the neighbors and collect maple leaves from under their HUGE tree and we would swing and fall into the massive pile. I would go around our house and collect the last of the blackberries to freeze for the winter. Then go pick apples to make apple crisps and apple sauce. I love being in the kitchen even as a child.
My Grandma would grow pumpkins at her house and we would go over and pick them so we could be all ready for carving pumpkins. We would chop down some long corn stalks to put by the front door. I really made due with what I had at the house and I had so much fun doing it. Now, today I use so much of those tricks in my daily life. I could afford buying the apples or the blackberries but it is the reward of picking them myself and making the individual dishes. Talk about living child like!
So this year on my Fall Bucket List…
- Flannel shirts
- Cook up some homemade applesauce
- Pull out my Fall decorations
- Bring out my Fall candle
- Pick out a pumpkin
- Carve pumpkins
- Roast pumpkins
- Make caramel corn
- Design hand turkeys as a fun craft project
- Make homemade apple cider
- Corn maze
- Order a pumpkin spice latte
- Watch my favorite football team! College- Huskies and NFL- Seahawks
- Make Halloween costumes
- Downtown Halloween party
- DIY candles
All of the things I want to do truly don’t cost that much. But they get me excited for this time of year. Maybe in a sense it brings me back to my childhood. I can find that young girl who thrived off the do it yourself reward.
When I say Fall decorations I only have a couple things that have been handed down from my family. It’s just enough to add a little Fall to my home. Some glass pumpkins, a Fall door wreath and then of course my favorite candles from bath and body works!
Are there ways that you could slow down and enjoy this season? Is there things that make this time of the year exciting for you? I would love to hear!
