Dual Purpose Products

Dual Purpose Products

Who doesn’t love a product that you can use in more ways then one?! Not only is this the minimalist side of me, not wanting to have loads of items when when one product does the trick, but it also saves money not having to purchase the other items that you are able to replace!

Here is my list of dual purpose products..

  • Blue Dawn Soap-

Dual Purpose Product

Dawn is tough on grease but it is also a great stain remover for laundry. I place some Dawn on a stain before I place in the in the laundry and wash in cold (like I normally do) and then air dry.

  • Coconut Oil-

Dual Purpose Product

Cooking and baking ingredient but also great on skin and hair. I put some in a small mason jar and leave in my bathroom. I have rubbed my belly with coconut oil and I have received tons of compliments on how my baby bump looks with no stretch marks from the nurses and Doctor at my office. I use coconut oil on my baby girl too for her skin as a more natural lotion then the ones you buy. I also coat my hair with it for about 15 minutes before I take a shower and then wash and condition as normal. I get great shine and softness from doing this type of treatment. If you are wanting to bake with it, here is a great gluten free cookie recipe!

  • White Vinegar-

Dual Purpose Product

Vinegar is a great dual purpose product because you can turn it into a multifunctional cleaner, good on floors, windows and of course can cook with it.  You can also use vinegar to kill weeds outside. Way safer and cheaper then the chemicals you can buy from the home improvement store.

  • Apple Cider Vinegar-

I have heard TONS of great benefits of apple cider vinegar. I currently use 1:1 ratio with one part water and one part ACV as a toner and it has reduced my sun spots. I also take a shot of it daily for health benefits which you can find here.

  • Conditioner-

I use conditioner for my hair but also for shaving my legs. It works better then shaving cream because my legs come out moisturized instead of dry.

  • Vaseline-

This product has been around since the mid 1800’s! The original use was to heal cuts and burns but I use it on my lips and lashes nightly before bed. I know other people who use it on their cracked heals of their feet and on their cuticles. This is just a great moisturizer.  I also have a friend who uses it on squeaky hinges in her house.

  • Bay Leaves-

You can cook with Bay leaves or you can put them in your windows and doors to help keep ants out. My friend swears by this method!

  • Salt-

Salt is a staple ingredient in my house, just like in many houses. Besides using this as a cooking ingredient I have used salt to kill slugs in my garden for years. Works perfectly and doesn’t harm my garden like some toxic slug killers would.

  • Coffee-

Just like salt being a staple in my house, coffee falls right in that same category. Besides drinking coffee you can use the coffee grounds on plants, in planters, or in a garden and of course use the grounds in a compost. You can also use the grounds for a coffee scrub that I will explain in the next bullet point. I also have used the left over coffee for iced coffees later in the day by just storing it in the refrigerator but also watering my plants with the coffee (only once a week).

  • Sugar-

This is a common baking ingredient that I am sure you have in one way or another. Maybe brown sugar, raw sugar or just white sugar. Besides baking with it I use it in my scrubs. I have made all sorts of scrubs! One of my favorites is to make it with coffee grounds. I will warn you this can make your shower a little messy if you add too much coffee grounds. There are perks to adding coffee grounds to your scrubs found here, her recipe uses pods of coffee such as from a Kerig but you can just use normal coffee grounds if you use a coffee pot!

I hope my dual purpose products help you. These are some of the ways I use these products but please know that there are tons of other ways! I would love to hear the products you

What’s In My Hospital Bag?

What’s In My Hospital Bag?

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclaimer for more information.

Probably about 3 months before I was due I started researching different items I should be packing for my hospital bag. I was reading blog posts, watching YouTube videos, asking family and friends what they recommended. I am someone who likes to be prepared and organized to say the least. I got all sorts of answers but there were a few items that were consistent such as, bring your own pillow, shower sandals and some yummy snacks. I didn’t want to be that girl who brought her whole house in multiple suitcases because I know the basics will be covered by the hospital but I still wanted to have some items that maybe would ease the pain and soreness.  So here is my list!

Hospital bag

My hospital bag:

Baby items I packed

Baby Items I brought:

  • Coming home outfit with headband
  • Diapers and wipes
  • Aquaphor- This is great for dry, cracked skin (which my baby had)…Highly recommend!
  • Clippers or file
  • Baby book for foot prints- This is the book I have!
  • Socks
  • Mits
  • Onesies
  • Sleeper sack
  • Swaddle blankets
  • Baby blanket (the one her Grandma made)

Here are the items I wish I would have brought:

There is, honestly, no items I wish I had brought.

Here are the items I could have skipped:

So, I am very frugal and realized at the hospital that I didn’t need all that I had brought. I could have done without…

  • Underwear- I used the hospitals because they fit the large pads, so I would leave mine at home.
  • Hygiene items- I ended up just using what the hospital provided.
  • Nipple cream- The hospital had this for me.
  • Nursing pillow- Didn’t find it helpful at the hospital but use it at home all the time!
  • Witch hazel wipes- I would leave these at home.
  • Laptop & charger- I thought I would want to watch Hulu or write but the hospital tv was enough for me. I honestly slept way more then I expected.
  • Book- I was so exhausted I didn’t have the energy to read.
  • Dermaplast spray- I would leave this at home because you’ll need this at home too.
  • Socks- I was hot the whole time so I didn’t use these, plus the hospital has some if you need them.
  • Shower sandals- I could hardly move, so I personally would skip this because when I went to shower or to the bathroom, it took another person holding me up. I wasn’t thinking of cleanliness of the shower.

What they provided at the hospital:

  • Underwear
  • Large pads
  • Normal pads
  • Hygiene items
  • Spray bottle
  • Dermaplast spray
  • Tucks wipes
  • Medication
  • Stool softener
  • Nipple cream
  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Newborn onesies
  • Newborn hats
  • Swaddle blankets

All of these items where provided for me to use in the hospital but they also all came home with me. The medication and stool softener were sent to the pharmacy for me to pick up.

Here is the items I had prepared at home:

  • Stool softener
  • Ice pack
  • Pads
  • Underwear
  • Dermaplast spray
  • Food prepped for a few weeks

To Summarize:

These are the items I would pack in my hospital bag…

As for the babies bag I wouldn’t change anything because I felt it was good to have a diaper bag more set up at this point.

In conclusion, this is my list and what I learned and would do different. I hope this helps any mamas out there trying to figure it out like I was. If you are someone who has an awesome lists of what to pack, I would absolutely love to hear! Feel free to comment below and subscribe up top!

Bucket List Road Trip

Bucket List Road Trip

Recently I took a family trip to Arizona. We had a chance to visit some gorgeous places! Traveling is one of my huge passions in life. There is nothing like seeing all the different types of beauty throughout our country! I recently wrote about how to travel on a budget, which you can find HERE!

We headed to Williams, AZ which is right on Route 66. Such a cute small town!

From there we drove up to the Grand Canyon which was absolutely unbelievable! If you have never been there, be sure to add this place to your bucket list because you need to see this place with your own eyes! There is a reason why it is one of the Seven Wonders.

Grand Canyon, AZ

Grand Canyon, AZ

If I wasn’t pregnant I would be planning to go when the temperature isn’t over 100 degrees so I can do one of these amazing hikes! I have heard that the river rafting trip and the helicopter rides are both amazing. We spent some time walking along the edge of the canyon and just took in the view.

From there we left and went to Flag Staff, AZ to where our hotel was located. We got unpacked and relaxed before going to dinner. We had a delicious dinner at a restaurant called Salsa Brava, which I would HIGHLY recommend!! You can find their website here

The next day we woke up early and headed on highway 82A to Sedona, AZ! That was an unbelievable drive… The colors of the rocks and the river running next to the super curvy road! We made a stop at Slide Rock State Park. This is an unbelievable park where the rocks are the slides. This place was packed so if you get the chance to go be sure to bring your swim suit and come early! Also, this park used to be an old apple orchard back in 1932 and had tons of apple trees. I highly recommend this State Park!

We headed into Sedona and the rocks were so incredible! The town was so cute with tons of stores and restaurants. There was so much to see as far as the town and then all of the different rocks. Another great Bucket List place crossed off the list!

When I go back I will do the Pink Jeep Rides because I heard they are great. It was about 115 degrees when we were there so we passed and ended up doing our own tour where there was AC and I could stop to use the restroom anytime.

Sedona, AZ

We headed back to Flag Staff for the night and got up the next day and headed off! The trip was amazing and I am already dreaming about where my next trip will be!
