Probably about 3 months before I was due I started researching different items I should be packing for my hospital bag. I was reading blog posts, watching YouTube videos, asking family and friends what they recommended. I am someone who likes to be prepared and organized to say the least. I got all sorts of answers but there were a few items that were consistent such as, bring your own pillow, shower sandals and some yummy snacks. I didn’t want to be that girl who brought her whole house in multiple suitcases because I know the basics will be covered by the hospital but I still wanted to have some items that maybe would ease the pain and soreness.  So here is my list!

Hospital bag

My hospital bag:

Baby items I packed

Baby Items I brought:

  • Coming home outfit with headband
  • Diapers and wipes
  • Aquaphor- This is great for dry, cracked skin (which my baby had)…Highly recommend!
  • Clippers or file
  • Baby book for foot prints- This is the book I have!
  • Socks
  • Mits
  • Onesies
  • Sleeper sack
  • Swaddle blankets
  • Baby blanket (the one her Grandma made)

Here are the items I wish I would have brought:

There is, honestly, no items I wish I had brought.

Here are the items I could have skipped:

So, I am very frugal and realized at the hospital that I didn’t need all that I had brought. I could have done without…

  • Underwear- I used the hospitals because they fit the large pads, so I would leave mine at home.
  • Hygiene items- I ended up just using what the hospital provided.
  • Nipple cream- The hospital had this for me.
  • Nursing pillow- Didn’t find it helpful at the hospital but use it at home all the time!
  • Witch hazel wipes- I would leave these at home.
  • Laptop & charger- I thought I would want to watch Hulu or write but the hospital tv was enough for me. I honestly slept way more then I expected.
  • Book- I was so exhausted I didn’t have the energy to read.
  • Dermaplast spray- I would leave this at home because you’ll need this at home too.
  • Socks- I was hot the whole time so I didn’t use these, plus the hospital has some if you need them.
  • Shower sandals- I could hardly move, so I personally would skip this because when I went to shower or to the bathroom, it took another person holding me up. I wasn’t thinking of cleanliness of the shower.

What they provided at the hospital:

  • Underwear
  • Large pads
  • Normal pads
  • Hygiene items
  • Spray bottle
  • Dermaplast spray
  • Tucks wipes
  • Medication
  • Stool softener
  • Nipple cream
  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Newborn onesies
  • Newborn hats
  • Swaddle blankets

All of these items where provided for me to use in the hospital but they also all came home with me. The medication and stool softener were sent to the pharmacy for me to pick up.

Here is the items I had prepared at home:

  • Stool softener
  • Ice pack
  • Pads
  • Underwear
  • Dermaplast spray
  • Food prepped for a few weeks

To Summarize:

These are the items I would pack in my hospital bag…

As for the babies bag I wouldn’t change anything because I felt it was good to have a diaper bag more set up at this point.

In conclusion, this is my list and what I learned and would do different. I hope this helps any mamas out there trying to figure it out like I was. If you are someone who has an awesome lists of what to pack, I would absolutely love to hear! Feel free to comment below and subscribe up top!
